HMRC compiles list of 200 billionaires for UK tax crackdown
Summary
Britain's tax authority, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), has for the first time compiled a list of more than 200 billionaires who are required to pay UK tax, whether or not they formally live in the country. HMRC is assigning dedicated "customer compliance managers" to them as part of a crackdown meant to raise £500m for the public purse and address a "wealthy tax gap" caused by those who do not pay what they ought. The authority is inviting each billionaire and their representatives to "a voluntary initial or pre-filing discussion".
