Protests take place across France over living and working conditions

Summary

Protests are under way across France on Saturday over the high cost of living and poor working and studying conditions, France 24 reports. The broadcaster says the mobilisation follows social-media calls to revive the Yellow Vests movement, which emerged in 2018 against social injustice, while student groups protesting since mid-September have urged supporters to join. This follows earlier reports that Saturday’s nationwide demonstrations turned violent, with police using tear gas and batons to disperse unsanctioned marches, according to France 24.
