Democrats win control of Congress in 2026 midterms, a rebuke to Trump

Summary

Democrats won control of the Senate in the 2026 US midterm elections and were moving to take the House of Representatives, a result outlets describe as a rebuke to President Donald Trump's Republican Party. Reports differ on the House: Seeking Alpha says Democrats take control of the House, ABC says they had won the Senate and were on the cusp of taking the House rather than having taken it, and NPR says Democrats have won both chambers, giving them full control of Congress for the first time since 2023. Hindustan Times describes a historic midterm sweep in which Democrats seized both the House and the Senate, and says that with control of Congress they will have substantial powers to check Trump's domestic and foreign policy agenda. Hindustan Times also reports Democrats celebrating a series of wins and projected victories as key races turned blue.
